Flashback Friday-John Hughes Glitch

By now, you should know that I love John Hughes and ALL of his wonderful 80's movies.  I have seen Pretty in Pink 5,000 times and it remains one of my favorites.  Lindsey loves it too, which means I have done a job well-done.  I mean, if you don't love that movie, you must be a guy.  It's awesome.

There is a glitch in Pretty in Pink though and it's always bothered me.

For those of you who haven't seen it, Andrew McCarthy (Blaine) asks Molly Ringwald (Andie) to the prom.  He is rich, she is poor, and he gets a lot of crap from his snobby friends for dating her.  Eventually, he stops calling her, she knows something is up and confronts him at the lockers.  She screams “What about prom, Blaine?"  He says "A month ago I asked someone and I forgot."  She calls him a filthy, no good liar and a coward because his rich friends got to him, which was totally true.  He was afraid of what his a-hole friends would say.

So at the end of the movie Andie walks into the prom with her best guy friend (Duckie, who is in love with her) and she sees Blaine.  Blaine has come alone and he's pouting in the corner because he is OH SO depressed.  Blaine gets up and walks toward her when his snobby friend stops him and makes fun of her some more for being "trash".  Blaine basically tells him that he's the trash and he keeps walking; his friend stands there speechless.  So now Blaine stands in front of Andie; Andie is still holding Duckie's hand.  Andie pretends that she's fine, but then admits that she's lying.

Here's the glitch:

Blaine says "I always believed in you.  You just didn't believe in me.  I love you.....always."

Now explain to me how that makes any sense?  He stopped talking to her because his friends made fun of him for associating with "trash".  He doesn't take her to the prom because he's embarrassed.  And he always believed in her?  How the hell did she not believe in him?  She called an ASS and ASS, and she was totally right!  He was a coward and she was right!  He turns it around on her and we are supposed to say "Awwww"?   Not me.  I would've said "Nice try, playa" and hooked up with Duckie.

But in the grand scheme of things and because of the need to create a memorable scene in a teen movie, the dumbass chick buys it.  If that isn’t bad enough writing, then Duckie says "You'd better go after him or you'll be ruining a very romantic moment for me."  HUH?  Ok, let’s be realistic…..your best guy friend who is in love with you would first throw salt, then take you to the dance floor for a little Electric Slide.  A romantic moment to your best guy friend who is in love with you would involve a make-out session in his '84 Volkswagon Rabbit.  He would not give you his blessing to be with a lying douche bag who totally screwed you over.  It makes no sense at all and it irritates me.

It's actually very disappointing!  How could John Hughes write that crap?  He thought that girls were that stupid?  Apparently we are in 80's teen movies.  Remember the girl in Sixteen Candles who gets her hair chopped off because it’s stuck in the door?  HAHA, I actually love that part.

I will say that although the ending to Pretty in Pink doesn’t make a lot of sense, it leaves room for an awesome love song by Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, or OMD.  Come on, guys, click it.  Click it and see what makes our hearts flutter……

Happy Birthday, Logan and Lindsey!

Logan and Lindsey,

I can't believe you are 11 years old today.  You have made me so happy and have given my life so much meaning since you the day you were born.  I have so much fun watching you grow every day and I am so proud of you.  Always remember how loved you are by not only me, but all of your friends and family.  We all love and adore you so much.

Logan, your goofy sense of humor is something that I look forward to and I love our chats.  You are intelligent beyond your years and I love your passion for learning new things.

Lindsey, your smile and passion for dancing and everything else that you do lights up my days.  You remind me sometimes of what it was like to be a little girl and I love watching you grow up.

I love you guys,

Mom(my)

Great Quote

Lindsey called the radio station yesterday because they were looking for kids to be on the Disney channel.  She got through and left a message.  Someone called back about 20 minutes later and asked to talk to me.  I really didn't know anything about it because she had called on her own, so after the lady explained what they were looking for she asked me a couple of questions about Lindsey.  She asked what her grades were like and I said A's and B's.  She asked if she had any experience performing and I said that she has danced for 7 years....that was all she needed to hear.  She asked if they could interview her on Saturday.  I have to take her down to Atlanta for a couple of interviews.  She had one last question before we got off the phone.  She asked how confident Lindsey is on a scale from 1 to 10.  I said 10 because she is bold.

When I hung up the phone Lindsey said "How cool would this be if I get to be on the Disney channel?  This would be so great for my career."

Career?  She's hilarious.  She'll be 11 tomorrow and she is talking about a career.

Pictures....

I skipped Zumba this morning because I feel like I swallowed rocks.  I assume I caught a bug from Lindsey and Macie Grace.  They were both sick last week.  I hope that isn't what this is because both of them had high fevers.  Ever taken care of four kids when you have a fever?  It's the worst.  This is what I get for forgetting to take my vitamins for a week.

Lindsey has tumbling today at 5:00 and if I am feeling better I may try to go to Pilates when she finishes.  Other than that, we have no plans.  It's raining outside, which means that sick or not sick, I am cleaning my house today.  Wooohooooo!

I promised pictures from Saturday....here they are!  Also, I am posting a video on You Tube.  It's not a great one, but it's the only one I taped.  I don't even know if I got the entire thing because my memory card said it was full at some point and I remember that it stopped recording.  Lindsey is all the way to the end on the right; look for her hair.  She absolutely loves lyrical. The timing was kind of off on this dance because they didn't seem to have a lot of time to work on it, and there were a lot of people rushing the dance.

Last two pictures from the recitals:

Alyssa is in front.  She is so cute.

Weekend Recap-Sort Of

I am getting the pictures ready from all of the recitals and the 80's party.

It was a very fun weekend, but I think we are all still tired.  Lindsey was a trooper on Saturday, but I could tell that by the third recital she was about to crash.  She is going to tumbling today; we'll see if she has her energy back.

I watched "Ides of March" last night.  I meant to see it a year ago, but I am a little behind on my moves.  Ryan Gosling was very good, but I have to admit that I prefer him when he plays someone sweet.  Good for him for not playing the same character over and over though.  This movie is great because it's so realistic.  It sums up why our country is so backwards.  Even those with good intentions seem to fall into the game and end up corrupted.  It's sad.  It shouldn't be that way.  Politics screws up everything.  And it's true that money makes the world go 'round......until it's spinning out of control.  So sad.

I will get pictures up tomorrow morning.  Have a great day!

Revenge by Marker

I know that I am always talking about how much Logan and Lindsey fight and hate each other, but I really don't think that anyone gets it.  Here is an example of the friction between the two of them:

This is our family calendar.....I don't know or care who attacked first.
Thankfully May is now over, so I don't have to look at this.  Logan
drew a TAIL on Lindsey!!!!

We have dance all day today and then I have a birthday party to go to tonight with my neighbor.  It's an 80's birthday party.  My neighbor and her friends are laughing at me because I was born in the 80's.  They are like 40 or maybe a little bit older, I think.  I am going as Madonna.  I am wearing a black tutu and rubber bracelets; I will take pictures.

By the way, last night went well.  Here are some more pictures:

Getting a bite to eat...
We were laughing because they were all sitting on the same side.
They are so cute, if I do say so myself.

Have a great Saturday!  I am off to Cartersville again.....four more recitals today!

Company A Recital

Lindsey had a lot of fun last night.  We didn't forget ONE thing, thankfully, so we were able to enjoy it and not be stressed out.  She looked and danced beautifully.  Last night was the big recital for our girls because they performed everything that they have learned all year, so I think we had six costume changes.  Opening number was awesome.  The teachers dress up every year and dance with the girls and it's always hilarious.  The director dressed up as Justin Bieber.  So funny.

I originally thought that we had 4 recitals on Saturday, but then I thought that we had two.  NOPE.  It is four.  10:00, 1:00, 3:30 and 6:30.  She is going to be exhausted.  AND we have one tonight, so we get to do all of this again in about 6 hours.

Here are some pictures.  I got pictures before every number, except Company A and Jazz.  There wasn't time.....
